As a Governing Board Member in a local school district, I have worked to help start programs in our school to teach awearness of students about reportng suspected guns on campus and potential dangers. Giving our administrators latitude and authority they need to work with partents, students and local authorities for saver campuses.
Our Govering Board just had a retreat and had an inservice on a new 12 year safe campus program with David Azuelo a 32 year veteran of Tucson Police Department and now is in charge of security at Raytheon.
I would enjoy working more with your organization.

We must create a legal recourse for family members, police, and behavioral professionals to take guns away from a person who may pose a threat to themselves or others. A court order to limit their access to firearms until they can demonstrate is a risk is over should be implemented in Arizona. Essentially, a STOP (Severe Threat Order of Protection) order is a temporary restraining order for guns. There is evidence to suggest that mass murderers are already known by law enforcement to be a threat to their workplaces or the people they knew, but at the moment there is no recourse for removal of firearms.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I have marched and advocated for gun sense for many years. See latest proposal at a candidate forum: https://youtu.be/j-UVCU11xSw?t=6m37s

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

I think we should promote safe storage to prevent accidents, particularly involving children. When I was in the College of Public Health, I proposed an insurance incentive program that would give people a break on their homeowners insurance if they bought a gun safe. I also think that eventually this country should require liability insurance for guns, like we do for vehicles.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I supported the gun violence prevention legislation proposed by Dr. Randy Friese and supported his bids for the Legislature (even before I became his seat mate.) I have blogged about gun violence prevention. My employer, the American Journal of Medicine, has published several gun violence related articles..

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

I support comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases, safe storage laws and extreme risk orders of protection. These measures would help keep citizens safe from gun violence and reduce the cost of this public health crisis.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I have introduced bills to establish background checks and ban bump stocks and trigger cranks as well as mental health injunctions which prohibit firearm possession for those deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

Pass sensible gun laws to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I have introduced several pieces of gun regulation legislation including the child access bill that would require loaded guns to be locked if children would have access to them. If a minor obtained a loaded weapon and harmed themselves or others, the owner of the gun could be charged with a felony.
