Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

I would support discussing "red flag laws". I would support improvements to mental health services in Arizona.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I attended the town hall at the Gilbert Chalice Christian Church. I attended the March For Our Lives March at state capitol.

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

We need universal background checks on all gun sales, mandatory waiting periods for purchasing, limited magazine capacities, an outlaw on hollow tip bullets, a ban on bump stocks and increased access to mental health resources. This includes reducing the school counselor to student ratio here in Arizona. This is a very complicated issue but I believe these solutions would help reduce the gun violence epidemic in our state.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I’m an active member of the East Valley chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Violence in America. We actively seek common sense solutions to our gun violence epidemic.

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

Any person whose weapon is used in a commission of crime should be held liable if they are found to have been negligent in storing the weapon (except in cases of break-ins, robberies, or they themselves were a victim of a crime connected to the weapon used in a crime). Penalties range from mandatory safe storage classes for gun owners to losing their licence to carry a weapon for six months or more.
If elected my very first priority would be to reduce both the counselor to student ratio and teacher to student ratio. When our teachers and counselors are not overburdened they can take the time to know their students better, which can help prevent school shootings.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

As a candidate I talk to voters to raise awareness

Gun Violence cost AZ 1.9 Billion per year. What will you do to address this?

It is not a crisis and I feel this question, like many of the above are worded very poorly. Mental health is a problem and should be addressed first. Furthermore, I believe there is a lot we can do as a society to stop tormenting children that would go a lot further than anything addressed in this questionnaire.

What have you done to prevent Gun Violence?

I have been preaching about letting kids be kids and not demonizing firearms. Please see my blog post I wrote a while back: www.nickmyers.us/my_answer_to_school_tragedies
